What are reserve items?
Reserve items are books and other materials that instructors have requested to be placed in a special location apart from the rest of the library's collection.
How do I access reserved items?
Print Reserves
The print reserve collection is located behind the circulation desk in all libraries.
To use the print reserve collection, you must present your library card to have the items checked out to you for use within the library.
Though print reserve items are normally checked for use only within the library, some items circulate overnight with special permission of the instructor involved.
When you are finished with print reserves, please return all items to the circulation desk.
Electronic Reserves
Electronic reserves are available online from on or off campus.
To access electronic reserve documents, go to Electronic Reserves.
Electronic reserve access requires a username and password from your instructor.
How do I place an item on reserve?
Instructors must have a library account to place print items on reserve. An application is available at the circulation desk. A Wake Tech photo ID card is required. Distance education instructors can place items that they own (books, photocopies, etc.) on electronic reserve.
Placing personal books or other items on reserves:
- Bring the items to the library and complete one of the Reserve Item Forms, available at the circulation desk.
- Attach the form to the items and give everything to staff for processing. The items will be put on reserve within one week of the original request. On the form, please indicate when the items should be removed from reserve and returned to you.
- Electronic reserve items are deactivated after a specified period of use or at the end of the semester. If you would like to reactivate items on electronic reserve, please inform the library staff. You may also come in and retrieve the items at any time before the date indicated.
- The library reserves the right to remove items from reserve at the end of each semester to comply with copyright law.
- Disclaimer: The library is not responsible for damage to or loss of any personal items placed on reserve.
To place library items on reserve::
- Pull the items from the shelf in the library and bring them to the circulation desk.
- Complete the form as indicated above.
Electronic Reserves Guidelines
- For class notes, handouts, PowerPoint slides, or study guides: Instructors are encouraged to use Blackboard for posting these types of documents. If you do not use Blackboard and have no knowledge of how to post items to this system, then the library can post them online for you under the electronic reserves section of the library site. To expedite placing them on electronic reserve, we ask that you please provide electronic copies of materials created in Word, PowerPoint, etc. The files can be sent via e-mail to rbvidrine@waketech.edu.
- For book chapters or journal articles: To ensure a high quality digital copy with a small file size, please provide a quality photocopy or the original document for scanning.
- Staples must be removed to scan documents. Please use paper clips.
