Netflix and the Wake Tech Libraries
How does Netflix work?
To know more about how Netflix works, please visit their Web site via this link.
In our case, Wake Tech’s Netflix subscription is shared among all faculty, staff, and administrators. This makes time of the essence. It will be necessary to plan ahead and use the Netflix DVD at the time you request below, preferably a single class period. Netflix titles will not be available for reserve, and students may not request titles at this time.
Is this different from having the title on the shelf in the library?
Yes, this subscription is fundamentally different from having the title on the shelf in the library. When the library sends one DVD back, only then will the next DVD in the queue be sent. It is as if we are all sharing a few highly desirable DVDs that have a thousand films on them. Because there is a limit on the number of simultaneous DVDs--we may have a maximum of 4 at a time--we must all work together to make sure every user gets their requested title when they need it. No one wants to be the user responsible for “throttling the queue” and backing up all other requests, knowing that another instructor needs a film to show for a particular class period.
How long can I borrow the title?
Because your use can speed up, delay, or even block the next user’s access, it is important to plan ahead, request the DVD for a particular date only and then return the DVD the same day you use it. Firm dates of use and quick turn around time makes Netflix work for everyone on campus.
