Borrowing Guidelines
Library Accounts | Check-out Periods | Renewals | Fines | Interlibrary Loans | Statement of Responsibility
What do I need to open a library account?
You must have a Wake Tech photo ID in order to open an account, which will allow you to borrow books from the circulating collection, use items put on reserve by your instructors, place a hold on items checked out, or request material from other libraries via interlibrary loan.
Where do I get a Wake Tech photo ID?
You may obtain a Wake Tech photo ID, good for all of the Wake Tech Libraries (Bruce I. Howell, Health Sciences, Western Wake, and Northern Wake) by having it made in Room 121F of the Student Services Building on the main campus or AB Room 236 at the North Campus. Picture identification is required.
What if I'm not a Wake Tech student?
Community patrons and distance education students without a photo ID may apply for a Wake Tech library card.
I've lost my card. What should I do?
Please report lost or stolen cards immediately to prevent others from borrowing items on your account. There is a $1.00 replacement fee for lost community borrower's library cards. For lost Wake Tech photo IDs, a replacement ID card must be made before library services are provided to the library user.

Online Renewing
- From the library catalog, select the "My Account" link at the top of the page; then select the "Renew My Materials" link.

- Fines stop accumulating as soon as an overdue item is returned to the library. Materials may be returned to any of the four Wake Tech Libraries.

- Grades, transcripts, and graduation for Wake Tech students may be delayed until all library materials are returned and all library fines have been paid in full.
If the Wake Tech libraries do not own an item, you may request it from one of the 44 libraries of the Consortium of Community College Libraries in North Carolina (CCLINC). We will hold items for pick up for one week from the day we contact you, and then they will be returned to the lending library.
Steps to Requesting an Interlibrary Loan
- Conduct your search in the online catalog.
- When you find an item that you want from the list of results, click the
button located to the left of the title of that item. This function will take you to the full record of that item. - On the menu to the left of the item record, select the link on the left that says "Place Hold."
- The next screen will prompt you for your identification. If you are a Wake Tech student, faculty, or staff, type your 7-digit ID in the User ID box. If you have a community borrower's card (white with green lettering), then type in the number under the bar code on the back. Your PIN number is "1234" unless you have changed it under the "My Account" feature. Leave the "Alternate ID" box blank.
- Double check to make sure that the pick up location is "Wake," "Wake Health Education, " "Wake North," or "Wake West." (you may choose any of these).
- Then click the
button. The next screen will verify your hold. - To request another item, go back to your list or conduct another search and follow the same process.
Some materials may be unavailable for loan, e.g., reference and videos.
Some libraries may not participate in interlibrary loan services.
- Materials available to circulate are limited to 9 items checked out in total.
- Material placed on reserve located at the circulation desk may be checked out for in-house use for 2 hours only.
Users are responsible for lost and damaged materials as per library policy.
